The Program Management Professional (PgMP®) is the credential that gives you distinction and recognition in a growing community of professionals that manage programs.
The credential is offered to candidates whose daily tasks go beyond project management and into the realm that has a direct impact on the accomplishment of organizational objectives.
The PgMP® also increases your visibility within your organization and on the international level as someone with the knowledge, skills and experience to make important decisions and to carry out strategic objectives that enhance business results.
Under minimal supervision, program managers are responsible and accountable for the coordinated management of multiple related projects directed toward strategic business and organizational objectives.
They maintain continuous alignment of program scope with strategic business objectives. They possess advanced skills in finance, cross-cultural awareness, leadership, communication, influence, negotiation and conflict resolution.
The PgMP® credential recognizes demonstrated experience, skill and performance in oversight of multiple, related projects that are aligned with an organizational strategy.
Who can benefit by obtaining a PgMP® credential?
Practitioners who:
- Are responsible for achieving an organizational objective by overseeing a program that consists of multiple projects.
- Define and initiate projects and assign project managers to manage cost, schedule and performance.
- Maintain alignment of program scope with strategic business objectives.
You must pass a sequence of three evaluations to obtain the PgMP®:
- Evaluation 1 – Application Review
The initial evaluation occurs through an extensive application review during which a panel of program manager will perform a review of your professional project and program management experience.

- Status changed from “Applicant” to “Candidate”
- Complete Competence Evaluation 1.
- Evaluation 2 – Multiple-Choice Examination:
- Item Development
- Defining the program 14%
- Initiating the program 12%
- Planning the program 20%
- Executing the program 25%
- Controlling the program 21%
- Closing the program 8%
- Evaluation 3 – Multi-rater Assessment (MRA)
Once you pass the examination, you will be moved to the third and final evaluation, which is the MRA. - Similar to a 360-degrees review process, a team of rates that you select will assess you abilities to perform tasks that are pertinent to program management.
- PMI sends candidate an e-mail containing link to web-based performance evaluation survey.
- Survey contains 70 Statements to rate from 0 to 5
- “0” No basis to judge candidate’s behavior
- “5” Candidate’s performs task with outstanding strength
- Same e-mail sent to 12 contacts provided by candidate on application
